Flat Stanley, The Little Mermaid and the Queen

April 17th, 2004

Diane and I decided to take Stanley downtown Copenhagen.

First we went to Langelinie and saw The Little Mermaid. The Little Mermaid is a statue which is very famous.

The Little Mermaid comes from one of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytales. Hans Christian Andersen is probably the most famous Dane that ever lived. He wrote mostly fairytales that can be read and loved both by children and adults.

Then we went to Amalienborg Castle. Amalienborg Castle is where the Queen of Denmark lives most of the time.

Flat Stanley went to look at the Royal Life Guard that protects the Queen and her family.

Denmark is a kingdom. But because the former king only had daughters, his oldest daughter became queen. Her name is Margrethe the 2nd.

Queen Margrethe the 2nd.

When the Queen dies we will have a king again. The oldest son becomes the next king. His name is Frederik.
He is getting married May the 14th. The lucky girl is called Mary and she is from Australia.
