Question

I have resently aquired one of these cammera's but find the firmware not up to par, it will only record for 5 seconds on motion detect so I am looking into getting motion set up as the back end.

The cammera streams what I beleve to be mpeg but the firmware requires (microsoft,blah) activex installed on the viewers p.c.

I can view short video's that have been emailed to me from the cam using mplayer, But cannot view the stream with Firefox etc.

If anyone out there has a workaround or could possably help me out, please post.

Answer

Motion only supports jpeg or mjpeg net cameras.

So you will either need to make the camera do this and if this is not possible some conversion proxy is needed.
